1. General information
The aim of the subject is to provide students with the principles and methods of economic analysis necessary for the measurement of the importance of economic quantities in the technical processes involved in agricultural and agri-food activities from an application point of view: agricultural valuation; determination of the costs of crops, plantations, livestock and industries; economic-economic analysis of the economic and mechanisms governing the markets of agri-food products.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute in some extent to their achievement: 2.c and 8.2.
2. Learning results
- Describe and understand the principles and methods of agricultural valuation
- Apply and analyze the different methods for the valuation of agricultural assets
- Describe and understand the principles of marketing and commercialization of agricultural and agri-food products - Apply cost theory to agricultural and agri-food production processes
- Apply and analyze profitability indicators in agricultural and agri-food investment projects
These learning results are required in the development of the professional activity, and in addition, the valuation of farms, companies and other agricultural assets is one of the regulated professional activities that can be practiced by graduates.

Agricultural and agri-food business economics:
- Topic 1: Costs in agricultural and agri-food production processes
- Topic 2: Agricultural and agri-food investment analysis
Agricultural valuation:
- Topic 3: Purpose and agricultural valuation criteria
- Topic 4: Valuation of properties
- Topic 5: Valuation of other agricultural assets and expropriation valuation
- Topic 6: Valuation of damages. Agrarian Insurance and Appraisal Standards
Commercialization and marketing of agricultural and agri-food products:
- Topic 7. Supply and demand. Market types
- Topic 8: Commercialization of agricultural and agri-food products
- Topic 9. Agri-food marketing
Problem solving and case studies: Hourly cost of use of agricultural machinery; Costs, economic results and profitability thresholds of agricultural machinery, crops, plantations, herds and agri-food enterprises;Analysis of investments in agricultural and agri-food enterprises; Agricultural valuation.
4. Academic activities
The learning process designed for this subject is based on:
- Theoretical interactive classes: lecture with dialogue with the professor's presentation of the theoretical contents of the subject included in the syllabus. The student will be provided with all the presentations that the teacher will use in class, as well as the additional material, which will be available in the Moodle course of the subject.
- Interactive practical classes: solving problems and practical cases specified in the practical program, either on blackboard or using the computer. All practice material will be available in the Moodle course of the subject.
Distribution of ECTS credits (6): Theoretical classes: 40 hours; Practical classes: 20 hours; Assessment: 4 hours; Individual work: 86 hours.
5. Assessment system
There will be a global assessment test consisting of a written and face-to-face exam, with a theoretical part and a part of resolution of practical cases, which will account for 65% and 35% of the final grade respectively. The theoretical part will consist of short answer and development questions according to the theory syllabus of the subject. The practical part will consist of solving problems and/or exercises related to the subject, similar to those solved in class.
Assessment criteria: Theory short questions: the capacity of synthesis, the precision in the handling of the concepts and the degree of understanding and assimilation of concepts, principles and fundamentals will be valued ; Theory development questions: the capacity to organize, relate, structure and analyze the information will be valued, as well as the clarity of exposition and writing; Resolution of practical cases: the order, the approach, the correct use of terminology, thecorrect numerical result and its interpretation will be valued ; The following will be unfavorably valued: the absence of explanations in the development of the practical cases, disorder and poor presentation, and spelling mistakes.
